Project Requirements

Black belts must follow and document the thirteen-step Define-Measure-Analysis-Improve (DMAIC) process using the black belt project charter. Black belts must also use MINITAB software where indicated below.

Charters are to be submitted upon completion of the project with all pertinent records attached.

The following improvement tools must be used. Justifications must be submitted for omitting any of the required tools.

  • Cause and effect matrix

  • Descriptive statistics*
  • Design of experiments*
  • Error proofing
  • Failure mode effects analysis
  • Families of variation
  • Gage R&R and Attribute agreement analysis*
  • Histogram
  • Hypothesis testing*
  • Pareto chart
  • Potential “X” matrix
  • Process capability*
  • Process maps
  • Regression*
  • Supplier-input-process-output-customer matrix (SIPOC)

* Must use MINITAB software
