What Six Sigma workshops do you offer?

We offer the following workshops:

What are the prerequisites for your workshops?

None of our programs has prerequisites, other than a strong desire to learn and demonstrate Six Sigma skills. A working knowledge of basic statistics is helpful but not required.

Do your workshops apply to my industry/role?

Our Six Sigma workshops are appropriate for individuals from any industry. 

In addition, our workshops are appropriate for individuals in many roles, including roles in production, quality, finance, human resources, logistics and shipping, customer service, sales and marketing, and product development.

Who teaches your workshops?

Our Six Sigma workshops are taught by skilled, knowledgeable instructors who have an average of 25 years of experience in manufacturing. Their backgrounds range from plant management, quality management, engineering, product design, process development, sales, finance, human resources, and continuous improvement. All have used Six Sigma to lead continuous improvement projects in their industry.

Each of our instructors is passionate about providing high-value solutions to help companies reach higher levels of performance.

Why should I choose your program? What differentiates your program from others?

Purdue MEP has offered Six Sigma training since 2008 and has trained hundreds of individuals from a wide variety of manufacturing and service industries. Our instructors average 25 years of experience in manufacturing, and all have used Six Sigma to lead continuous improvement projects in their industry. In the most recent year, our attendees gave our program an overall rating of 4.7 out of 5.

Our program is a high-quality, cost-effective way to increase your skills and add value to your organization. 

Do you offer a Lean Six Sigma certification or a Master Six Sigma Black Belt certification?

We do not offer these programs at this time. However, both our Green Belt and Black Belt programs introduce lean principles.

Schedule

When and where are your workshops offered?

We offer Six Sigma workshops multiple times per year and in various locations in Indiana. Training is available as an onsite delivery at your company or through in-person public workshops or via live, instructor-led public workshops completed online. Visit our Workshops and Events page for information on workshop dates and locations.

Will you conduct a workshop on site at my company?

Yes, we can conduct workshops on your site for a group of your employees. This is a cost-efficient way to train multiple individuals. For more information, please contact mepworkshops@purdue.edu or 800-877-5182. 

 

Fees, Discounts, and Materials

Does the course fee include all materials?

Yes, the fee includes all materials needed for the workshop, including the exam. You will receive these materials on the first day of class. The course materials and slides are provided electronically via a Purdue MEP issued USB drive. Pre-printed materials are available for purchase during the registration process for an additional fee of $25. 

When registering for Black Belt training, you will receive a six-month, non-renewable license to Minitab. If you already have access to Minitab and do not need this license, Purdue MEP will discount your fee by $600. Contact mepworkshops@purdue.edu or 800-877-5182.

Is a laptop required?

Purdue MEP has a limited number of loaner laptops that may be provided during the class sessions depending on availability and schedule requirements. Please contact mepworkshops@purdue.edu if you need to arrange a loaner laptop during the training sessions. 

Do you offer discounts if multiple individuals from one company sign up?

No. However, we can conduct workshops on your site for a group of your employees; this is a cost efficient way to train multiple individuals. For more information, please contact mepworkshops@purdue.edu or 800-877-5182.

Are your workshops eligible for GI Bill benefits?

Yes, our Green Belt and Black Belt workshops are eligible for Chapter 33 Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits.

What credentials will I receive once I complete one of your workshops?

Do you offer CEUs for the workshops?

Yes, you can obtain CEUs for completing our workshops. There is currently no processing fee to obtain your CEU transcript record. If you are interested in obtaining CEUs, please select that option during the registration process. 

Our workshops also qualify for professional development hours (PDHs) through the Indiana State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. Once you complete the workshop, Purdue MEP will provide you with a certificate of completion you can submit to the board for these credits.

 

Six Sigma Projects

Is a project required?

To obtain a Purdue MEP Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification, you must complete a project. Completing a project allows you to demonstrate mastery of the new skills you have learned.

Your instructor can mentor you in identifying a project. You must submit your project for review within 120 days of the last class session, and the project must meet criteria set by your instructor to be approved. Both during and following the classroom sessions, your instructor will be available to coach and mentor you as you complete your project.

Can my project be kept confidential?

Yes. Our Six Sigma instructors will sign a non-disclosure agreement if necessary.

How can I complete a project if I am currently unemployed?

You can complete a project through another organization, such as a small business or non-profit organization. Your instructor can mentor you in identifying a project, but it is ultimately your responsibility to identify an organization.  

 

Green Belt to Black Belt

I’ve completed a Green Belt training through another organization. Can I take your Black Belt Workshop?

Yes. To enroll in our Black Belt workshop, you must demonstrate Green Belt knowledge by:

  • Submitting a certificate or other information showing that you have completed a Green Belt program; this information must be reviewed and approved by Purdue MEP.
  • Passing the Purdue MEP Green Belt exam.

You must also pay a $2100 fee for the Black Belt training. Contact mepworkshops@purdue.edu or 800-877-5182 for additional information.   

 

Failure to Pass

If I don’t pass the exam, what happens next?

If you fail the Green Belt exam, you can retake the exam one time at no additional cost. If you fail the exam a second time, you may repeat the Green Belt workshop at the regular cost. You cannot advance to Black Belt training until you pass the Green Belt exam.  

If you fail the Black Belt exam, you can retake the exam one time at no additional cost. If you fail the exam a second time, you may repeat the Black Belt workshop at the regular cost.
